Just the Two of Us

Just the Two of Us

After 35+ years of marriage, two wonderful sons, living and working in Australia, Sweden, UK and USA we are now 'just the two of us' plus a very spoilt Shitzu.

Following five years at The Sandhurst Club it is time to downsize. Our criteria - build a new home in a development within ten minutes of John's Sandhurst Golf Club, access to Monash and Eastlink Freeways, all new infrastructure and proposed services, recycled water and no Management Company or Body Corporate Fees.

We invite you to view our journey as we build with Carlisle Homes our 'Savannah 28' at 'The Avenue at Casey', a masterplanned community meeting all our criteria.

Frame - are we there yet?

  1. Morning Deb... Feeling better today?
Fantastic looking frame you've got there. Out of interest, are you having any additional noggins put in for wall mounted things to hang from? I've read about ppl who have this done at your stage and just wonder if Carlisle allow it.
If this rain ever stops today we might make the trek to check your frame out!!!

  2. Can't believe how quickly your build is going Deb, that's dedication working in this freezing weather. Have a good hot lemon drink - works wonders. And it doesn't matter that you don't drink either - what about coffee? I have been known to get withdrawal symptoms if I don't have one cappuccino per day! We all have our drug of choice!

  3. Morning Reinsey and Janine,
Head slightly stopped thumping and yes Janine always ready for a coffee. You will notice the water logged gums along entrance are removed ready for replacements. Reinsey, regarding noggins etc..our previous build and our sons we installed noggins, a pipe to vent the tumble dryer thru wall in laundry, speaker wire etc. We had no problems requesting brickie (thanks with grog) to do the pipe which John set up and after handover fitted the outside with a louvred vent. Noggins for TV's, towel rails, WC, speaker wiring etc; our experience SS are usually approachable as long as they know i.e. don't appreciate finding something not discussed. Also, Luke's (sons) build we installed sound barrier wall insulation between Theatre and a bedroom and before ceiling in garage laid timber sheets as a platform for storage - measured to cut an extra manhole after handover. All this can be done around rough plumbing/electrical stage. We hope our Carlisle SS is as accommodating.

  4. You are a wealth of information Deb, I was wondering how I was going to get the dryer vented in the laundry, as I don't want to constantly leave the door open. Ours is currently vented straight up into the roof cavity, but I would have preferred to have it vented outside. I shall mention that when we sign our final contract.

  5. Your welcome Janine,
Always interesting to hear what other people do...Carlisle permitting, you shall see ours. Venting kit, louvred plate etc. Bunnings and good plumbing stores. Works a treat. I am the drier queen, after living so many years in extreme cold climates.

  6. We will have to meet soon so you can explain it all to me, how do you know exactly where to put the outlet in the laundry wall so it hooks in with the dryer, can you buy the complete venting kit at Bunnings or do you order it as a spare part for the make of dryer you purchase? We are selling our house with the dryer staying because it is vented into the roof (and the dryer is about 10 years old now and we will probably need a new one soon). As you say, you are the dryer queen, so I am at your service!!

  7. We will probably do the same....leave the dryer with our son and purchase new. Dryer will have a rear vent outlet. A flexible venting hose will attach to this outlet then connected to the pipe in wall above laundry sliding door or window - outside pipe will be fitted with a louvred plate which will open and shut when dryer in use...I am sure between our build and yours there will be plenty of time to explain/view. Generally venting kit bought as whole unit.
