Just the Two of Us

Just the Two of Us

After 35+ years of marriage, two wonderful sons, living and working in Australia, Sweden, UK and USA we are now 'just the two of us' plus a very spoilt Shitzu.

Following five years at The Sandhurst Club it is time to downsize. Our criteria - build a new home in a development within ten minutes of John's Sandhurst Golf Club, access to Monash and Eastlink Freeways, all new infrastructure and proposed services, recycled water and no Management Company or Body Corporate Fees.

We invite you to view our journey as we build with Carlisle Homes our 'Savannah 28' at 'The Avenue at Casey', a masterplanned community meeting all our criteria.

  1. Just wonderful, it has been a real experience to watch your house grow from a patch of dirt to what it is now. I have learned so much from you Deb, and feel blessed that we have met through the forum and blog world. I am sure we will have a long friendship and I look forward to your continued advice if my house ever starts!!

  2. Thank you Janine,
Hard to believe the slab was poured four months ago, including Xmas...hope Reinsey is taking note.

Fingers crossed for a good PCI Report from our Inspector. We have found a few minor issues; nothing that can't be fixed in a week to Handover. A dream build, but I hate moving - should be used to it...love doing the landscaping.

I think we will have a great community - in another 12 months the Estate will be a hive of activity with landscaping and Park in full swing.

Perhaps our build has kept you amused? albeit, I'm sure soooo ready to start. I look forward to your journey.

p.s. have you noticed that spare front door has been on every wall in our house, will someone please take it away!

  3. Deb, that kitchen of your is divine. If mine looks half that good I'll be a happy Reinsey.
Janine, biggest of big hugs. I KNOW what this stage is like when it feels as though every person on the planet gas started their build and you're just waiting, waiting... You WILL start this month. But I know that words are just annoying when all u wanna do is see something happen. Big hugs!!

I'm a big teary mess today. About to go sit with mum and call in on block o. The way. Our slab will be in the process... There aren't words!!!!!

  5. House looks great Deb! So fresh, yet inviting too... Love the kitchen display cabinet lights. And I'm very jealous of your WIR setup... Are you planning on installing any more lights or anything else?
Good luck with PCI tomorrow!!! Not long now, until you have those keys :) It has been great to sit back and read about your build. Looking forward to seeing what you do with your landscaping.

  6. Morning Shelley,
Tired and elated, hate moving..just want to wakeup and be there.
Thrilled with the display cabinet lights - always a worry. Cabinetmaker tested my patience, only Trade to get things wrong...had to be the kitchen!!
All other Trades excellent, credits to Tiler and Painter.
WIR came up better than we expected, moved entrance into ensuite to maximize wall space....has worked well with good floor area to move around.
Mainly downlights; the chinaman hats will be replaced in Bathrooms with Oysters, Study and Bedrooms looking for lights and Dining a light fitting from previous home.
Would love to landscape front first but probably the rear because of dog and mud!
    How's everything at your House??

  7. All's good at home! We're waiting for our lounge/dining area blinds to be finished, hopefully installed next week. I'll post photos when they've been done. :)
I didn't realise that you've changed your WIR entrance. It actually makes quite a lot of sense, and it means that you get more wall space too... Something that we don't have a lot of, empty walls!
I've changed my mind completely with the plant selections for the front garden. But I'm very happy with my new direction. Still have to submit my landscaping plans! Handover was 3 months ago today! Can't believe how fast this has gone!
Are you still working during your move? Can only imagine the stress and work involved in moving one whole house, to another. In one way, we had it quite easy. Just had to move 2 bedrooms worth of stuff to the new place! But I do know one thing, it's all worth it in the end :)

  9. Shelley, pictures please - I love pictures, house, landscaping etc...
I only work three days a week but boy have I run around those two days off. Credit to those who have two people working full time whilst building a house.
We've downsized a lot but I'm sure we'll still freak at what has to be moved.

Tonia - I'm more pleased everytime I walk thru. This house has exactly what we wanted at our stage of life.
Went past this evening after work - cleaned and ready for PCI in the morning.

  11. I can't believe how quick everything has gone for you! Just love love love your kitchen and your robes! Can't wait to see the house once you have put your decorators touch to it and really looking forward to your landscaping.

I will have to get some tips from you as my back as a pitiful array of weeds pretending to be lawn.
