Just the Two of Us

Just the Two of Us

After 35+ years of marriage, two wonderful sons, living and working in Australia, Sweden, UK and USA we are now 'just the two of us' plus a very spoilt Shitzu.

Following five years at The Sandhurst Club it is time to downsize. Our criteria - build a new home in a development within ten minutes of John's Sandhurst Golf Club, access to Monash and Eastlink Freeways, all new infrastructure and proposed services, recycled water and no Management Company or Body Corporate Fees.

We invite you to view our journey as we build with Carlisle Homes our 'Savannah 28' at 'The Avenue at Casey', a masterplanned community meeting all our criteria.

Handles

Carlisle CLE called early this morning, email from Cabinet Maker - 'our pot drawer handles are not available and to make another selection'??  WT....does that mean!  They have the cabinet handles fitted and just noticed 'no pot drawer handles', or the whole selection is unavailable?

To those of you who have experienced the overwhelming selection of colours, finishes and attention to detail required at the Colour Appointment prior to building will appreciate my disappointment. I called the handle manufacturer who confirmed the handles are recently discontinued in our chosen finish - 'polished chrome' but should still be in stock.

Quick call to our Carlisle Colour Consultant who confirmed the same recently happened with another client and fortunately they were able to source them. I know their only handles but they were the only ones both of us agreed on!!  Hoping for good news tomorrow morning or I am on my way to Selection Centre to ponder handles.

On a positive note, Carlisle SS called - bricklayer continues, fixing stage scheduled for Wednesday with  hopefully our kitchen and vanities (with handles) waiting for carpenter, followed by painting and a site clean before Xmas break.

We have requested a walkthru inspection with SS for next week following fixing stage.

  1. You did really well to not totally go off the handle Deb. Especially as you had such a good handle on your selections.
But seriously - what are you going to do? And which handles are they (please don't be the ones we've chosen!?)
So what will be left to do after Christmas... just tiling, splashback, plumbing fittings and appliances???

  2. Yeah, I thought I kept pretty calm! considering I then went to work - have you been to a Post Office at Xmas lately!!!!! Will see what Carlisle come back with tomorrow. Handles were -Lincoln Sentry Valentino, Polished Chrome. Any suggestions - what have you chosen?
After Xmas - electrical fit off, big job will be tiling and then mostly cosmetic finishing. We anticipate sometime February, no hurry.

  3. Wow now if you are in in February that will surely be the fastest build I've ever seen. We will be hardly started by then. Do you mean to tell me I have potential handle choices to make as well geez I think I will stick to baking!!

  4. Noooooooooooooooooooo.. we've chosen Lincoln Sentry Valentino - 160mm for everywhere except 288mm for pantry & those sneaky pot drawers. Finish = Aluminium S/Steel look, so maybe we'll still be okay.

J - you're too funny. We've got 23 pages of selections. There's soooooo much to choose. If you do my baking, I'll pick your colours. you like orange, yeah????

  5. Hope you find your handles Debra..I have no idea which ones we chose..colours selection appointment went by so fast..I can't even remember anything that I chose..and names don't mean anything to me! I'll just get a surprise when they install them haha :)

  6. Yep, identical selection - 160mm everywhere and 288mm for pot drawers. Seems you've got the colour they STILL make arrrggh. Time will tell if we only have a problem with the 288mm pot drawers and not the colour as there is a longer version which would be OK.

Janine - you will be dreaming handles after this, stick to baking.

  8. Well Deb, if you do have to pick new handles, please don't go for those rounded D style ones. I don't think we could be friends if you did!!! (sorry to anyone madly in love with their D handles... Really I am)

  9. I'm with you Reinsey - not a chance, wouldn't want to push a friendship over handles.
