Just the Two of Us

Just the Two of Us

After 35+ years of marriage, two wonderful sons, living and working in Australia, Sweden, UK and USA we are now 'just the two of us' plus a very spoilt Shitzu.

Following five years at The Sandhurst Club it is time to downsize. Our criteria - build a new home in a development within ten minutes of John's Sandhurst Golf Club, access to Monash and Eastlink Freeways, all new infrastructure and proposed services, recycled water and no Management Company or Body Corporate Fees.

We invite you to view our journey as we build with Carlisle Homes our 'Savannah 28' at 'The Avenue at Casey', a masterplanned community meeting all our criteria.

A Little Closer.......

Met with Concretor for Exposed Aggregate driveway quote this morning -  now we need to select colour of mix.  Have a few addresses to check out plus a trip to Mentone Mix display will help.

This afternoon handles for internal doors, linen cupboards and front door were fitted.
Cabinetmaker finally returned with the island side panels correctly edged, looking through window the shadowline on overhead cabinets has also been corrected.
Electrician can now cut out for chrome downlights in open cabinets.

Where is the man to finish the WIR fitout and extra shelf missing in cupboards?......followed by carpets - we're a little closer.

Mario the Tiler

What a great name for a Tiler.  Mario and his workmate are working hard in this heat. I was taking a photo through the window and Mario offered to show me his tiling - excellent. He expects to finish tomorrow and grout Friday.  I shall drop them off some cold beers in the morning.

Mario said guy measured for showerscreens, mirrors and glass splashback today.
Finally, the downpipes are connected to stormwater.....now it can rain!!
Cabinetmaker replaced kitchen corner cabinet to open opposite direction - allowing handle to fit.

Handles and Tiramisu

Before setting out this morning in search of colour inspiration in window coverings, cushions etc.. I called my Carlisle CLE to question the whereabouts of our cabinet handles (refer my rant before Xmas). Our handle selection had been discontinued but 'stock' still in Sydney and were to be posted. I wanted reassurance this had not been forgotten.

Janine, a future 'Avenue' neighbour and I organized to meet at house this afternoon and head off for coffee.

Coincidence?  I found cabinet maker fitting the elusive handles.
Great bloke who Janine closely supervised in the Ensuite whilst I beamed to finally see handles. We also had the task of choosing (from an ordinary palette) screw covers for the overhead open cabinets. I had complained of the colour match; this definitely required a woman's touch......thanks for the help Janine. Cabinet maker was also installing overhead 'Perspex Pearlescent Pearl' doors - excellent.
Painting is completed - Beige Royal Quarter with Natural White ceilings looks beautiful.
Templates for Caesarstone benchtops in kitchen, bathroom and ensuite have been picked up.

Me a happy lady and after scrutinizing Janine's bootful of potential tiles and laminates we did a quick pitstop to make sure her land was still there before an Excel and Echo belted towards Berwick for well earned coffee.

Missed you Reinsey - Tonia, just a little too far?

SS Janine - they better be straight

Coffee at last....

Handles

Delete all previous handle posts because our original selection is being sent from Sydney!!!!!.
Following a conversation this morning with our CLE, she was not impressed the handle issue had not been sorted and promptly arranged for our original selection to be sent from Sydney to the cabinetmaker.....my kind of woman.  Within minutes I was called by the Spectra Manager to confirm same. Why don't they let women sort out the world's problems?

Handles Update

Called Carlisle this morning to be informed both my CLE and Colour Consultant were away today.  Spoke to Spectra Manager who knew of  handle issue and is waiting an answer from Rep re stock.

I decided to visit Spectra and select backup handles.  Another Consultant was very helpful and surprised to learn the colour was discontinued as she is still having clients choose from this range. Apparently, only the Polished Chrome is discontinued with Melbourne having none in stock and 600 in Sydney. As the cabinet maker is waiting on handles and until Carlisle decide what to do I selected alternatives.

Kitchen and Laundry - same handles in Aluminium Stainless Steel
Bathroom and Ensuite - same shape, more slender handle in Aluminium Polished Chrome to match bathroom fittings

I hope no other selections are discontinued as this was as exhausting as the first round.

On Site - brickies continue plus skirtings, architraves and internal doors delivered for carpenter.

Handles

Carlisle CLE called early this morning, email from Cabinet Maker - 'our pot drawer handles are not available and to make another selection'??  WT....does that mean!  They have the cabinet handles fitted and just noticed 'no pot drawer handles', or the whole selection is unavailable?

To those of you who have experienced the overwhelming selection of colours, finishes and attention to detail required at the Colour Appointment prior to building will appreciate my disappointment. I called the handle manufacturer who confirmed the handles are recently discontinued in our chosen finish - 'polished chrome' but should still be in stock.

Quick call to our Carlisle Colour Consultant who confirmed the same recently happened with another client and fortunately they were able to source them. I know their only handles but they were the only ones both of us agreed on!!  Hoping for good news tomorrow morning or I am on my way to Selection Centre to ponder handles.

On a positive note, Carlisle SS called - bricklayer continues, fixing stage scheduled for Wednesday with  hopefully our kitchen and vanities (with handles) waiting for carpenter, followed by painting and a site clean before Xmas break.

We have requested a walkthru inspection with SS for next week following fixing stage.
